    To the one wondering why age is a parameter: You are quite corrrect to state that the amount of energy would be the same, it's the engine that delivers that energy/power which is not the same, hence why age is a significant factor in calories burning calculators.

    to the person who said this site is only useful for a flat course and not hills or mountain biking I would say, that what goes up must come down. Certainly work harder on uphills, but what about down?

    Perhaps this is useful on a road bike / flat course. If you are a mountain biker, somewhere around 2/3rds of your calories will be determined by elevation change over the course of the ride, so the fact that this calculator does not take elevation change into account means that it is completely useless for anyone on a course with hills.
